Last Friday was our first major milestone. This marked the end of pre-production and concept proof. The core mechanics that we now have implemented into our game are:
-Picking up and dropping interactable objects in the world
-A glowing outline telling the player which objects are interactable (i.e. a door or coffee mug)
-Pulling up "camera mode" and snapping a picture of the screen, which is then saved locally to the game
-Opening your journal to see a grid of all the pictures you have taken
We also got full Wwise integration for audio. In our demo we had:
-Forest ambiance
-Creaking from the old wood of the cabin
-A squeaky door opening
-Birds chirping then flying off
To populate our demo, we included many assets from our art team such as:
-A fully modeled cabin (interior and exterior)
-Over 40 props to populate the interior of the cabin
-A fully rigged and animated bird
-Speedtree integration for the forest
-First person hands
-The glowing outline shader for interactable objects
We had a successful milestone even through major tech problems. We learned that you need special administrative access to our school computers to make a build of the game, but when we got our IT guy over with the right accesses, not even he could get through the walls to build the game. Instead we provided a video demonstration during our presentation to show our current standing. With some editing, I will be uploading that video here so show our progress.
Until next time,
The Takowana County Team
